Indo–Sri Lanka Cultural Ties Celebrated on the 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka. New Delhi, India: The 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated with great pride and diplomatic warmth at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, reflecting the enduring friendship between India and Sri Lanka.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair for the Indo Sri Lanka Film and Cultural Forum, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Her Excellency Mahishini Colonne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, on this historic and proud occasion.

The celebration was graced by the presence of Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India, who attended as the Chief Guest. His presence underscored the strong diplomatic, environmental, and cultural cooperation shared by both nations.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Sandeep Marwah emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. He stated, “India and Sri Lanka share centuries-old civilizational, cultural, and artistic ties. Through the Indo Sri Lanka Film and Cultural Forum, we are committed to further enhancing people-to-people connections, promoting cinematic collaboration, and encouraging artistic exchange between our two great nations.”

Dr. Marwah highlighted that cinema, media, and cultural initiatives serve as powerful instruments of soft diplomacy, bringing communities closer and fostering mutual understanding beyond borders. He reaffirmed the Forum’s dedication to organizing joint film festivals, cultural delegations, academic collaborations, and creative partnerships.

The event witnessed the participation of diplomats, dignitaries, members of the Indian government, cultural ambassadors, and representatives from media and entertainment industries, symbolizing the strong and evolving partnership between India and Sri Lanka. The 78th Independence Day celebration not only marked a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s national journey but also reinforced the shared commitment of both countries to peace, prosperity, and cultural unity.
