Noida: The AAFT School of Fashion & Design, in association with the International Chamber of Media & Entertainment Industry (ICMEI) and the Rotary Club of Winter Haven, celebrated National Handloom Day with great enthusiasm at Marwah Studios, Noida. The programme highlighted the richness of India’s traditional handloom heritage and its continuing relevance in contemporary fashion and design.

Renowned artist Alpna Kataria and Utsav Shivneet, Director of Art Gallery, were the distinguished guests at the celebration. They interacted with students and faculty members and shared valuable perspectives on Indian art, textiles, craftsmanship, creativity, and the importance of preserving the country’s diverse cultural traditions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of ICMEI and Chancellor of AAFT, said, “Handloom is not merely a fabric; it is the living heritage of India. Every weave carries the story of our artisans, our traditions, our regions, and our cultural identity. It is our responsibility to promote handloom, support our weavers, and inspire the younger generation to carry this invaluable legacy forward through innovation and contemporary design.”

He further emphasised that institutions such as AAFT have an important role to play in connecting traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern fashion, technology, entrepreneurship, and global markets.

The celebration provided an enriching platform for AAFT students to understand the significance of handloom and explore new creative possibilities in fashion and design. The event also reinforced the importance of sustainable, indigenous, and culturally rooted practices in the rapidly evolving global fashion industry.

The programme concluded with a message of appreciation for India’s weavers, artisans, designers, and creative communities who continue to keep the country’s magnificent textile traditions alive.
