New Delhi: 12th February is being observed globally as the International Day of Journalism, a landmark initiative conceptualized and declared by Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Founder of the International Journalism Centre—a powerful family of over 50,000 media professionals spread across the world.

What began as a visionary idea in India has today evolved into a global movement, with nearly 100 countries actively associating with and celebrating this significant day dedicated to journalists and the spirit of responsible media. The International Day of Journalism has been specially carved out to recognize the role of journalism in shaping societies, strengthening democracy, and promoting informed dialogue across borders.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah stated that the foundation of this global observance rests firmly on the principles of constructive journalism. “We have always believed in journalism that builds bridges rather than walls. Organizations and individuals who uphold the values of love, peace, unity, and ethical reporting have joined hands with us to make this day truly meaningful,” he said.

The highlight of the celebrations is the Global Festival of Journalism, now regarded as the largest and most vibrant celebration of journalism in the world, organized annually on 12th February. The festival brings together journalists, editors, media educators, thinkers, and institutions from across continents to engage in dialogue, reflection, and collaboration.

This year once again, around 200 organizations across the globe are set to celebrate the International Day of Journalism, involving thousands of media professionals through seminars, conferences, workshops, awards, and public engagements—reaffirming journalism’s role as a force for truth, responsibility, and global harmony.

The International Day of Journalism stands today as a strong symbol of respect for journalists worldwide and a renewed commitment to ethical, impactful, and constructive media practices in an ever-changing world.
